Taking God’s Word to Heart

“Blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” Revelation 1:3

It’s made clear in chapter 1 verse 1 of Revelation that this book is the revelation of Jesus Christ. Jesus came into this world and put on flesh to die for our sins, to pay the price of sin and take our place. He took our sins upon Himself, He endured separation from the Father, and He resurrected three days later, conquering death and Satan. He is alive!

Jesus is our Savior, but He is also the King of all kings, who is coming again for His children. It’s easy to read through Revelation with furrowed brows, because John’s vision of the end times and of heaven is strange. I can’t fully wrap my mind around everything, around all the symbolism, which is why I want to do an in-depth study of Revelation this year.

But here’s what I do know. “The time is near.” We don’t know the day or the hour of Christ’s return, but each passing second draws us closer to His victorious return. Revelation paints a picture of God’s judgment upon this world and His enemies, but it also paints a picture of glorious hope.

Jesus is coming for His children! After His 1,000 year reign on a new earth, we’ll be in His kingdom, where we’ll be made perfect. Every tear will be wiped away. Death will not exist. We’ll never hunger, never tire, and there won’t even be need for sunlight, because God is Light! These are all things you read about in the Book of Revelation.

See how much we have to look forward to? We’ll never be able to comprehend God’s mighty love for us. So take His Word to heart. Hold His Word close to you always, for when “the end” comes…for God’s children, it’s only the beginning of eternity with Jesus.

Oh Father, You are the Alpha and Omega, the Almighty. Help me to bring glory to Your name and to meditate upon Your Word day and night.
