Gentle Reminders
It is Finished

Oh Lord,
You died for me. Your Word says You willingly gave up Your spirit. After being beaten and mocked and scorned and rejected and loathed, You still willingly and lovingly carried Your own cross as far as You could and allowed soldiers to nail Your hands and feet to that cross. You didn’t call on the angels to rescue You; You stayed there to the bitter end, when God turned His face away. You endured hell for me so I could be set free from the penalty of sin. You were pierced for my transgressions, of which there are many, and my soul knows all too well that it should have been me in Your place.
But God! You love a wretch like me. I’ll never be able to fully wrap my head around Your marvelous love. You are Love! And I am able to love only because You first loved me. You loved me enough to endure hell on the cross I deserved, and You loved me enough to utter the victorious battle cry, “It is finished.”
On that cross, the prophecies were fulfilled. On that cross, Love won. On that cross, Satan was defeated forevermore. On that cross, death was abolished. For all who call on Your name and believe You are the only way to the Father, redemption spreads to them. On that cross, as You took upon the sins of the world, forgiveness was displayed. At Your resurrection, since death could not hold You–the Spotless Lamb–Life overflowed like an endless stream of mercy. Because of You, sweet Jesus, Joy and Peace and Life and Love and Hope are mine. You give me grace upon grace and mercy upon mercy, and I am Yours.
So I will pick up my cross, Lord. I will carry it wherever You lead. I will decrease so You will increase. And I will love You always, my Redeemer and Light of the world…Because You first loved me.
It is finished!
